"Abiyum Naanum" pinnae nyaanum!!!

Another Prakash Raj film....GOD...this actor simply fascinates me....Initially i used to wonder if he is overacting but his films like mozhi, santosh subramaniam and this one did wonders to my thoughts...He is indeed one of the finest actor who shines with nothing but his sheer acting skills....

Coming back to "Abiyum Naanum"....this film came silently to theatres without much hype except for the tag that it comes from a director who gave us class films like "Azhagiya Theeye" and "Mozhi".....both my favorites!!!

i was neither very excited about seeing it nor did I pester my dear husband to book tickets (which i usually do when a new film releases)...
my mother-in-law saw the ad in paper and wanted to watch it...My in-laws rarely see films in theatre..in fact this was the first film, i watched with my in-laws...
So when my mother-in-law expressed her interest, me and Anand were bound to oblige..
So Anand called up Inox and booked 4 tickets for saturday(3/1/09).....the show was at 4PM....we reached the theatre early as usual..This time, earlier than ever because i was scared of taking my mother-in-law in the escalator and the lifts would take a long long time...but we managed to get into the lifts and entered INOX well before time....
We were the first to be seated...Slowly the crowds started coming in...

I didnt have any great expectations about the film because i heard mixed reviews....One of my friends said that it is a dull slow film and another friend told that its a good film and I will certainly like it...So i didnt carry any high hopes...my mind was a clean slate and was prepared to watch the film however bad it was....but to tell u the truth, i was expecting a good movie somewhere in my mind....

The film started with some unusual loud background music...The scene opened with greenery, mist etc etc and Prakash Raj out on a morning walk...
During the walk, he meets a young father of a cute little daughter and then narrates, shares his experiences as a father of a girl...
A father's memories about his only daughter, some sweet and some bitter mixed in right proportions!!!
Prithviraj as the young father appears in a special guest role...thanks to him..his role is a small one but indeed a sweet and significant one...
As the title indicates, abi is the only daughter of Prakash Raj...so obviously Naanum indicates Prakash Raj and its kind of a auto biography, a diary of a father...
It portrays the father-daughter relationship in a neat manner..A father who dotes on his only daughter....who lives for her throughout his life...whose thoughts revolve only around her...Trisha as the daughter and Aishwarya as the brave, practical mom have done their parts well..Trisha's jodi is a sardarji and he comes towards the second half of the film...just before interval...
I could relate many of the scenes to real life...
It made me cry, it made me laugh, it made me think....
A feel good film....

Other aspects of the film.. no negativity, i mean no fights, no villain...quite different from other tamil films...and it does not show a larger than life hero...
A fresh new touch to some old already heard story...and that touch was indeed refreshing....especially during the era of commercial mass masala films!!!!
and thanks to the director, it didnt have one of those item song numbers!!!!

Music did not impress me like the film did...none of the songs stayed in my lips even while the song was on....just wished if the director concentrated on this too..If it was also up to the mark and blended well with the film, then i would have given full marks to this father and daughter...
