Reality shows......Real or unreal?!?!

My understanding of reality shows, before actually watching them was this.....
Reality television presents unscripted dramatic or humorous situations, actual events, and usually features ordinary people instead of professional actors.......

But lately changed my definition....I have started wondering if there is atleast 1% reality in these shows.....A well knit story, with scripting done, speeches manipulated......but finally an illusion of reality created by experts.....It is a well planned dramatic sequence of events......now thats what I call a reality show......or in the real sense an UNREALITY show!!

I used to watch a dance show where only real life couples could participate....An actress or you can call her a emotional drama queen with her so called boy friend was one of the competitors......Of course none could find fault with their dance...They reached till the finals.....But ended being second....Soon after the show, they split ways.....As predicted, there was a huge drama staged and the reason for the split was that the small town boy friend used her for his career growth and dumped her.......

Then, I see her bridegroom hunting on national television.....yet again a matrimonial reality show....a SWAYAMVAR......a big show in every sense...great locations, huge sets, selection of prospective grooms in a BIGGGGway, costumes and jewellery by top class designers, Top models and choreographers teaching the contestants to ramp walk and dance!!!!
The top 16 or 17 candidates, who were finalized after some preliminary eligibility checks for marriage came in, the royal way!!! chariots, huge cars.....
The preliminary checks was such that one eligible candidate turned out to be a married person with 3 kids.....WOW....what an eligibility!!!
he confesses this and thus he is eliminated after 3 or 4 rounds.....

Tasks were assigned to each groom and as usual there was elimination after each week's tasks....
Some of the tasks were dancing, singing, make over and ramp walking......
I wondered if these were for marriage or some Mr India title

Added to those were difficult tasks like treasure hunting, bending iron rods, walking on fire to check their to check their strength...both physical and mental......
Those who failed or spoke against these were eliminated......

There was a round for asking questions and getting to know each other well.....A person asked some real hard hitting questions and so he was eliminated!!!

There were 3 finalists left for the final round.....It included a visit to their households and mingling with their families....
In a grand finale, she was let to choose her partner by putting the garland....her decision was almost obvious, she chose the NRI businessman who sounded financially on the upper side.......
I was waiting to see the grand wedding and there she declares that they are just getting engaged now and marriage will happen only after spending more quality time with each other......
I didn't understand the meaning of quality time till i saw them together on another reality show......
A show where they live in as husband and wife and prove to be good parents.....
That was their way of spending quality time........At the end of the show, they break up.....the reason being, they aren't comfortable with each other, he is not yet financially settled, he used her for cheap publicity, he flirts with other women.....etc etc......I thought a swayamvar would give an ultimate testimonial to the groom!!!
I mean what the hell was she doing when she selected him in the swayamvar!!!
She seemed to be blindly in love with him during that show......Oh yeah I forgot, love is blind but marriage is a real eye opener.....

So even a swayamvar didn't help her choose the right person!!! And a fairy tale wedding turned out to be a huge disaster!!!

After a matter of few months, I see her back on a dance show in another channel......guess what, her ex-boyfriend is part of the show as well!!!!

Her first love, the break up, her swayamvar, again a break up with fiance and then this.....All this happens in reality shows on television.....
Just to draw public attention and increase TRPs, emotional outbursts, break ups, patch ups, fights, walk outs, love, everything is scripted and a wholesome drama is staged......
"Daughter accuses mother in one show and Mother curses daughter on another!!!!"
"Boy friend uses girl friend in one show and Girl friend dumps boy friend on another!!!"
"Judges insult contestants on one side and Contestants question judgement on another!!!"
these are some of the USPs of such a show!!

Everything said and done, the channel had the guts to conduct another SWAYAMVAR and this time did bride hunting for a famous son from a political family!!! He, after a broken marriage and 1 or 2 affairs had the courage to go through this!!!! and the most hilarious part is that he managed to marry a much younger girl......
And now, even before the honeymoon is over, there are news stating that his marriage is on the rocks!!!!

They just prove that anything and everything is saleable as a package....emotions, family values, marriage, love....all are used as marketing strategies.....
The TRPs tend to increase when a fight is staged between the judges and the contestants or a contestant stops singing in between.....People actually stay glued to know what really happened.....and that is used as an eye catcher.....that incident is shown repeatedly in trailers to draw in attention.....
